What are you using to measure a rubber belt width to .0001"?

Re: Mark V Speed Control
I am getting a bit confused as I am seeing references to a couple of different numbers for drive belts. I have a SS 48222 December 1979 model 500 and need a new drive belt from the motor to idler shaft. I have a reference of the original v belt number of 504193 but doing a search for that belt it comes up to 521682.
Am I correct in assuming that 504193 was replaced with 521682 and 521682 is the correct number for the replacement belt?

Yes, 521682 is the current part number for lower drive belt for conventional (non-PowerPro) headstocks.number3456 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 8:17 pm Am I correct in assuming that 504193 was replaced with 521682 and 521682 is the correct number for the replacement belt?

Re: Mark V Speed Control
Different supplier? Slightly different profile? Or...
Different specs?
Why change at this late date?

Re: Mark V Speed Control
A search for the 'new' PN here on the forum dates the change back at least as far as 2008. I have a 2002 manual here that reflects the 'old' PN, and a 2004 headstock with the 'old' PN belt in it. The most enlightening thread was: viewtopic.php?p=21073#p21073 (circa 2008). It appears to me that the early 521682 belt was a Gates 2260 (4L260), 26" long and 1/2" nominal width (less than 1/2" in practice). A standard commercial belt, which conventional wisdom on the forum confirms is no good for Marks. I understand that SS has gone back to a custom size belt, exact dimensions sometimes debated, but the 521682 PN remains. My overall impression is that the PN change introduced a shorter narrower commercial belt that was later eliminated without another PN change, perhaps through drawing revisions.
Note: I have no personal experience with a 521682 belt. I have several 504193s. One thing they have in common is they are marked with the SS PN suggesting they are custom built-to-spec parts, made by more than one supplier.

Re: Mark V Speed Control
I noticed the current sale ad lists the PN 504193 Belt on sale for $8.85, regularly $17.69. Clicking the PN link takes you to the 'new' PN, 521682, for $19.99. Clicking Add to Cart from the sale ad puts 521682 in your cart for $19.99. This seems wrong on several levels.
