Does anyone know the dimensions of this piece?

515498 Universal Router Table Plate Insert
Regularly: $9.39 Sale Price: $4.70 -- You Save $4.69

Its on sale for half price. Can it be used as the router plate for a shop-built router table? And how "universal" is it...will it work with any router? So many questions, I know. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

This link should show an earlier ad that has pictures of the universal router plate, router pin insert, and lists the universal router plate insert but does not have a picture. I believe the insert should fit into the universal router plate. I ordered the router plate, router pin insert, and router plate insert. We’ll see what they are. I don’t have the universal router table but I do have the pro router table. also here is a screenshot of the webpage if the link doesn’t load the pictures. I couldn’t find any dimensions.

Ed, the 515498 Universal Router Table Plate Insert isn't the plate itself that the router mounts to. Rather, it's the circular insert with triangular mounting ears shown in the photo below, on my OPR table. The "Universal" insert has a clearance hole that's big enough for most router bits. The alternative part is the 515497 "pin insert". That one has a threaded insert in the center, rather than a clearance hole, for mounting the pins used for the overarm pin router function.

The typical router mounting plate is PN 515496 "Table Plate", which is pre-drilled, with many holes, for the common routers of the day. The one shown in the pic above is the "blank" table plate, which I drilled and countersunk to fit my undertable Triton router. I don't see either of the table plates listed in the sale flyer.

I would like to know how & where the 518073 universal router table mounts. Does it attach to the Shopsmith? If so, which models and where does it go. Does it mount on the 510 or 520 rails / tubes? I have a Bosch 1617EVS router, do I then order the table insert and which one for that router?

Further explanation: What I’m looking to do is find a way to mount my router to a table that I could then attach to my Shopsmith Mk V model 510. Either to the tubes or even to an extension table so that I would be able to use the Shopsmith 510 fence & miter gauge with my router. The 50% off of the universal router table 518073 lures me into thinking that I may be able to somehow incorporate my router to my 510 system.

I’m sure someone has mounted a router to a 510 somehow, but did they use the 518073 table or make something themselves? Any suggestions here would be most appreciated.

This is the description from the 2005 catalog, page 46. You can’t use the SS fence as far as I can see. I have the Pro router table with the 520 rails and can use my fence but it doesn’t have the miter slot.
I’ve added pics of my pro table. It is mounted so that the unsupported side is resting on the headstock. If you get the 518073 Universal Router Table(Table Only) I believe you would also need 515496 Router Plate and 515498 Universal Router Plate Insert to have a useable table. You would still need to rig a fence and a way to mount to your extension table.

Thanks Larry, thanks Dennis.

That was helpful information. Now I know a little more about another SS accessory.

So then that table is really a stand alone unit designed for the SS router stand and really not intended for use with the SS system.
Ok, then has anyone done their own router table mount for the SS 510 tube system? I’d really like to find a way to use my router with the 510 miter gauge and/or the 510 fence.

Wow!!! That is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you sooooooo much for posting that! I’m excited to get started. I just have to find those extra tubes he had & attached to that table. I knew someone had done this already.
