Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
I am trying to remove the motor pulley on the Power Pro. I have removed the setscrew but the pulley will not budge. Any suggestions?
Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
You have to remove 2 of the mounting bolts on the motor where it connects to the case. Then you can tilt the motor which gives you enough free play to remove the belt.

Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
There is also a clip, IIRC an "E" clip, on the shaft near the end. (Which you probably saw but these things have to be said.) The pulley should be right up against it. What's the reason you are removing the pulley, there might be a hint in that?Signmaker9 wrote: Thu Nov 03, 2022 8:08 pm I am trying to remove the motor pulley on the Power Pro. Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
I have removed the retainer clip and mounting bolts and have tilted the motor for better access. I received a RPS Error 1 and SS engineer suggested that I remove it for a through blow out and wire inspection.
Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
I don't want to disagree with the SS engineer in case there is more info or clarification. I think that rather than removing the pulley you would want to remove the fan impeller on the other end of the motor. First remove the fan shroud, three screws IIRC. Before removing the fan itself try blowing it out under the fan, the RPS circuit card is small and right there where the small five pin electrical connector is located. (Make sure that connector is well seated on the circuit board, another possible source of the error.) If that doesn't work, try again after removing the fan impeller for better access. IIRC the fan impeller is held on the same way as the pulley, "E" clip and setscrew. I think you can remove both the shroud and impeller with the motor tilted.Signmaker9 wrote: Fri Nov 04, 2022 12:07 pm I have removed the retainer clip and mounting bolts and have tilted the motor for better access. This doesn't explain why you couldn't remove the pulley, of course, I'm hoping that whatever it is is not an issue with the Impeller too.

Thank you for your suggestions. I'm sorry, I believe I have my terminology wrong. It is the fan assembly I am trying to get off. I previously removed the motor pan & belt covers, thoroughly blew out the area, reassembled it but continue to get Error 1 message. That's when I called SS.

I've never experienced these faults, just going by what the book says:
Checking the cryptic notes about errors, RPS State Error 0 , which is not the one you said, is the one associated with blocked sensor(s), possibly from sawdust etc. RPS State Error 1 is "All receivers are sensing infrared light from the emitters simultaneously." Possible reasons include:
"a. The Motor Fan with Position Disc inside has slid out of position and no longer engaged with sensor."
"b. Signal cable is broken or there is a poor connection."
"c. Sensors or other electronic components are damaged."
Of those the first could be related to your difficulty removing the fan.(?) Was the setscrew tight? Possibly you can see and measure this, it says to "position the Fan's edge 1/32" from the components on the green circuit board. You may have to estimate the distance. And I would turn it by hand and see if it maintains a constant distance.
For the second, double check the seating of the connector on the card, and with the motor tilted you should be able to check most or all of that cable for damage. I would also look for visible damage to the circuit board components, though I'm not sure the fan can get that close.

Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
From Teknatool's website, RPS Error 1 diagnosis is below. Note that Teknatool has a nearly identical switched reluctance motor from StriaTech that Shopsmith uses in the PowerPro so they are near identical so this should apply for you. The PowerPro doesn't have the ribbon cable described below so you would have to find the corresponding wire connection on the PowerPro so basically just re-check the connector insertions I would assume. Also, the following statement from Teknatool is useful in general: "Typically Fault/Error/No Voltage/Low Voltage is a wiring connection.. UPDATE: It looks like what Teknatool considers RPS Error 0 and RPS Error 1 are swapped from what the PowerPro considers these errors to be. Please see link below for confirmation made by David:

Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
It seems strange that Shopsmith and Teknatool have such differing descriptions. SS has it that "0" is the one potentially caused by a blocked light path, and Teknatool has it as "1." It's kind of an important distinction if you are trying to troubleshoot one of the error messages.

Re: Power Pro Motor pulley removal problem
Got it off! Seems the shaft just was just coated with a hardened film of glop. I just kept working the edges of the fan up & down and after a great deal of effort it reluctantly slide off. No broken or frayed wires and all connections look OK. I'm sending the green circuit board & connecting wire to SS for testing.
Thanks to all for the help and suggestions.
