Have no fear - Shopsmith is still with us
I just got off the phone with Jim McCann's wife (3/12 @ 3:24 PM, EST). She was able to reach him in the plant on a cell phone. Everyone is there and working.
The Time Warner cable was damaged, putting parts of Dayton and Vandalia out of phone and internet service. Obviously, these repairs will have a high priority.
More good news is that Shopsmith has sold their building and is in the process of moving to a smaller area which they will lease. This should have a positive affect on operating expenses.

Thanks for the Post, 8iowa! I guess ol' Ma Bell had something going for it that we have too soon forgotten. Too bad many of us are at the mercy of Time Warner and their technology and infrastructure. This is the price of "progress"?

Shopsmith, Inc is a group of quality folks. They shall survive this financial crisis. Even if they did not, they would not close their doors and slink off into the darkness of night. We, the customer base, would be informed in some professional manner.

Besides, I have a backorder that needs to be processed for delivery:rolleyes:.

I can't decide if we are turning into Chicken Littles, Vultures or Harbingers of Doom. Everytime the internet hic cups everyone is worried Shopsmith is gone.
First of all there will be life after Shopsmith if SS fails, I truly hope it never happens. Second I would think they would at least have the decency to say goodbye.
Guys let us stop jumping to conclusions, getting ourselves lattered up, and worried everytime we can't get into the forums.
If there is data on the forums you just can't live without I suggest you back it up now! Instead of wishing you had, however I personally think SS will be around a bit longer.

You just jump up and down and run around wildly worrying about something that needs not be worried about until you are all lattered up.

We had cable phone service at work and it was horrible. Customers would call and get a ring but thought we just were not answering the phone. It was not ringing at our end.
Funny fact is the cable company uses the bell company for their phone service. Why? so they have phones that work during a power outage.
Went back to Bell and all is well.

Will they be in the same building or moving to a new address?8iowa wrote:I just got off the phone with Jim McCann's wife (3/12 @ 3:24 PM, EST). She was able to reach him in the plant on a cell phone. Everyone is there and working.

cinci:
Shopsmith will be in the same building. They will move their offices and manufacturing to a much smaller area. There will most likely be other businesses leasing and moving into other portions of the building.
Jim's wife said that there will not be any downtime due to the move. She said that she worked at Shopsmith for thirteen years, and met Jim there.
