I am looking for the older pre 1960 Mark 7 upper way tube with plastic toothed rack. I just need the rack but not sure how to attach it. Original one was riveted. I would think the newer model would work but not sure. The old part number for the Rack is 501190. I prefer to buy the tube with rack installed.

jefffraizer,

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

As JPG said,
There is NO newer model.
Mark VII made by Magna American was introduced in October 1963 (according to newspaper articles) and made until Magna American ceased production in the 1968-1969 fiscal year as per the sales records. There is a current Mark 7 but it is based off the Mark V Shopsmith using the same frame, headstock shell and other parts unlike the Mark VII of the 1960's. Only the Mark VII of the 1960's had the racks on the way tube to adjust the Headstocks position on the way tubes. There have been sellers on ebay that have 3D printed replacement racks. That or finding used racks would be the only way to get them. For reference the first picture below is a Mark VII from the 1960's followed by the current Mark 7.

The current Mark 7 shown above is basically a Mark V 520s with the Power Pro DVR motor. The older Mark V 520 did not have the Double Tilt feature that was part of the Mark 7 when introduced. A new Mark 7 comes with additional accessories that the complete Mark V 520s does not come with new from the factory. Those are accessories for Routing and Shaping.

A quick search on EBay for “Shopsmith Mark VII Replacement Rack”
Brought up a seller with 3D printed replacement racks

Can you tell me the length of these replacement racks? Not sure if the Mark 7 takes 1 or 2 racks.

I copied this from the ad on ebay. Looks like you need 2 packages, 4 rack pieces total.

"3D printed in PETG

It takes 2 pieces to replace half of the original rack, 4 pieces to replace the whole rack.

Listing is for 2 pieces (half rack)

Requires drilling of 2 new holes."

Here is a link to JPG's thread on rebuilding a markVII (specifically the section on replacing the rack on the tube).
Good luck on your repair.
