Belt Sander question

It appears that the rubber is shredding off the drive drum on my belt sander. Is there a fix for this besides a complete drum replacement?

I have my doubts that there is a fix. How old is your belt sander? I ask because mine is getting into the category of also being OLD. This might be a sign of what is about to happen to me. I live in an area where heat and low humidity tends to take its toll on anything rubber.

SS would sell just the rubber sleeve for the sander in the past as I have replaced a couple and still have a new sleeve in my parts box. I don't remember what the order number was, but give SS a call and if they have it I am sure they will help you. It takes some patience (considerable) when installing one of the sleeves. I think I have the instructions in my notes should you decide to replace it.

Just called and they have them as a separate part. $10.57 so total w/ shipping and tax comes to $18.09 vs about $150 for the assembly. I think it's part number 502932 but not certain. Was told it's on BO (of course) but might possibly ship on Monday or Tuesday as they are expecting to receive a shipment of parts and machines by the end of the month.
