I don't remember what's going on with those links. The original '.net' extensions convert to '.com' for me automatically. Can anybody help out Haverstrawman get to that thread so he can get his machine re-assembled correctly. He can look at this whole thread for more setup/reassembly instructions: viewtopic.php?p=41339#post41339.edma194 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 8:28 pmPlease look at this thread with instructions for reassembly of the base and carriage: viewtopic.php?p=41340#post41340Haverstrawman wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 7:30 pm Nobody has a simple instructions on how to correctly put together a Shopsmith V ends and tubes. Better known as basic set up, I find that strange.
The instructions are detailed and include pictures.
You have the conventional way tube assembly that only tilts up at one end for drill press mode. There is an upgrade available and standard on the newest Mark 7 model that allows the way tubes to be tilted up from either end. With that upgrade the way tubes are a little short to fit tight end to end in the new base castings. The tubes are then then secured only with set screws they don't fit tight on either end. This makes some of us a little nervous although there may not be any actual problem, but it would be nice if Shopsmith included a pair of little spacers so the the way tubes would fit tight end to end when upgraded with the double tilt option.Haverstrawman wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 4:49 pm
Thank you everyone that made suggestions. To all those talking about spacers I am still confused about that.
1984 was 40 years ago. Who knows what someone might have changed between then and now. Saying "it's a 1984 edition" isn't a guarantee of anything. If I said simply that mine is a "1960 edition" then that would ignore a lot of upgrades I've made to it, and might lead to some very wrong answers to questions.Haverstrawman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 8:27 pm this forum not very helpful with basic set up.........to all those that posted about spacers ETC in my original post I stated my shopsmith was a 1984 edition
