Will someone please send me the dimensions of the Shopsmith molding head and knives?
I inherited 2 heads and several sets of knives. One head is unmarked and one is marked Magna 140000. The knives that fit the unmarked head are numbered in the 100 and 200 series and are about 3/16" thick. The knives for the Magna head are unmarked and 1/8" thick.
Both heads are 3 7/8" in diameter, 7/8" thick and have a 5/8" hole but only
about 1/8" of my 5/8" Shopsmith arbor protrudes for the retaining bolt.
My Shopsmith arbor is 3 1/8" overall and the threaded portion is 1" long.

I mount my moulder head directly to the spindle.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

You do NOT have the correct arbor! The correct arbor (505506) is 3 3/8 " long and the threaded portion is 1 7/8". This leaves 1" for the nut AND Tongued Washer.
The knives are 1/8" thick x 1" wide and about 1 9/16" long and have a countersink hole on the cutting edge side.
Is your 'magna' shaper body aluminum? The 'current' shaper body is 3 5/8" in diameter and is steel.

Thanks for the replies.
I took another look at my accessories and realized that my shaper arbor can be used for the molding heads. The arbor I had previously mentioned is only for the dado blades.
Neither of the molding heads I inherited are aluminum; a magnet sticks to them.
Neither of them can be mounted directly to the spindle, as there's no way to secure them.
Does the Shopsmith molding head have a set screw in it to hold it on the flat of the spindle?

It does! The lack of a setscrew AND the 'strange' nomenclature on it would indicate it is NOT a ShopSmith shaper. The blades are ???????
