I have found an older Shopsmith Mark VII that looks in pretty decent shape. I'm wondering if anyone knows that weight of that unit, and can I easily remove the top portion of the unit from the base. I have an SUV that it will fit in if I can get it apart, it's a few hours away and if I don't have to drag a trailer, or rent an enclosed one, would just make it easier on me. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

To start off with I have not owned a Mark VII from the 1960's. I believe since it was made with a Double Tilt Feature you may be able to release both tilt locks and lift the Way and Bench Tube frame off the Base.

I don't know how much the total unit weighs but once separated it would be more manageable. Hopefully a Forum Member who owns a Mark VII can give you more information.

I saw the YouTube video from Scott at My Growth Rings doing a demo on one, and it looks like you can release both and slide it off. Just kind of wondering about the weight so I know if I need someone with me to assist in lifting it in the back of my vehicle.

I went to the shop where my Mark VII/60's model is.
Once the pictures download/transfer to my E-mail I will post them.

Okay here is what I can contribute.

The headstock with the tubes on it is cumbersome for one person.
It can be handled thou.
The lower bench is lightweight.

Bench tube lever.
Here is the lever that releases the top from the bottom stand.
There is one on both sides. Releasing these levers will let you remove it from the stand.
Here is it separated with no Tools required.

Here is the set screws for the top way tubes.
Shopsmith toolbox required.
And The other side top tubes.
Bottom tube setscrews are on the underside.
A suggestion/ Take the key out and put it on a big key ring.
So, it doesn't get misplaced or broken off in the switch.

The bolts that hold the box too the bottom of the stand require a 7/16 socket or wrench. A socket with an extension and power tool to drive it would make quick work of this.

I would definitely recommend to NOT loosen any tube setscrews. Reassembly is onerous - aligning all four tubes at once to the end cap casting.

Neither would I take the box loose from the 'legs'. The box spaces the 'legs'.

GetterDone, thank you so much for the pics. I'm only interested in getting it to the 4th photo, at that point I can slide it on the sheet of plywood I keep in my SUV when I need to haul. Again, really appreciate all the extra effort you put into this for me.
