website 'video'.

Post by JPG »

I am curious what others here think of the 'stylized' video demo under the shop tab on the ss website.

Artistic liberty or indication of pending doo ah ah future changes?

Not sure which video.

If I just click "Shop", the top of the screen plays a video with closeups of various functions and operations being performed on an actual Shopsmith Mark 7.

If, under the "Shop" menu, I click "Mark 7" it pulls up an animation of a Mark 7 that doesn't look particularly accurate.

I wondered about the Mark 7 animation too. It’s a bit mis-leading. Looks much cooler than the actual machine.

Maybe they’re testing the waters for future updates.

Ditto.

JPG,

Can you confirm which video you are referring to? I mean, there is a stylized Mark 7 video on the main website, but in clicking Shop tab, I see multiple stylized videos down below. Is there one in particular that you were referring to? Thanks.

open ss.com click on home if not already there.

I had not noticed the ones under the shop tab, but the original question also applies to them.

JPG,

Thanks. Just commenting on the main website stylized video, the one you reach on first going to the Shopsmith website, my initial thoughts were that I liked it. Of course, I said the same thing for that new YT video that Shopsmith did with Nick, before you pointed out to me all of the flaws in that video! ;) So, maybe I am wrong again. I didn't pick up on any new features or additions to the Mark 7 from that stylized video, so I am curious if you saw something I missed. I did find it funny halfway through the video when they show the table tilt, the sawblade cuts into the table insert. Guess their animation can't be 100% accurate to true life for how the table tilt works. Also, funny that for most of the video that they modeled the arbor as something without an actual shaft.

Oh I liked the video as long as I ignored the glaring discrepancies. I surmise the 'animators had no clue as to what they were animating.

Most notable was the main table rotating a full 180°. Only the earlier Mark VII could do that.

Yeah that smooth cap that was supposed to be the quill shaft...

However what I did not like was the quill stop(back side) and the quill feed lever and the headstock lock lever. Pretty, yes - functional - I doubt it.
