Looking to buy?

Hello, I'm new here so bear with me. I'm looking at purchasing a used ShopSmith. I'm having trouble figuring the age of the unit. The serial number (112890) is saying it would be 1982. But it looks like a 510 which wasn't introduced until 1985 (555510). Can anyone verify either way?
Thanks, Mike

Some older machines were upgraded with a 510 table system.
Looks like a nice set of equipment. How much are they asking?

The table are of the later 510 version.
P.S. age matters not -- condition matters most.

mykee50,
Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.
I believe the serial number you gave as 112890 is actually a date code. As an actual serial number 112890 would have been made in January 1982 but would include the prefix SS before the numbers. That would be on a Belt Cover Vent Plate like the one below.

If that "serial number" is on a sticker as shown below it is a Date Code and is the date it was made.

Serial numbers changed to date codes in December 1987.

$1000? That would be a fantastic price for all that equipment.

This bears repeating. Shopsmiths don't fall apart over time. Bearings and belts may need replacing, rust may take hold, but some of the oldest Shopsmith machines made are still in use.

Great, thanks. So that would mean it was made 11/28/90? [
