Just to let beverone know, my shopsmith is down. The repair shop said that my motor is burned up. So I have to look for a replacement motor.

So thanks for all the info, tried all of them!!!!!! Fred

All Shopsmith headstock motors, 3/4 HP and 1 1/8 HP are interchangable and will bolt to the motor pan. The floating sheave, washer/snap ring or nut and spring are different on rhe earlier 3/4 HP motors than on the 1 1/8 HP motors. The floating sheave from the 1 1/8 HP motor has a longer shaft body and will prevent the floating sheave from fully opening at lower speeds when used on the earlier 3/4 HP motors. When buying a used motor, always try to get the fan and floating sheave along with the spring and nut or washer/snap ring included. Ebay normally has motors for sale.

Turned mine on the other day and it just hummed at me.
Went to this site and gave it a good think...
Took off the motor and brought it into a rather shabby electrical shop and the man in charge took a look at it and then a closer look and stuck a screwdriver in the vent hole and I heard a click. He said "Ha Ha! 5 bucks please!"
He plugged it in and it worked. He said to keep it cleaner next time. Contact switch was stuck.
I walked out smiling.

Just to let everyone know, I'm back in action. I bought a used motor on e-bay for $85.00 plus shipping. I cleaned the motor and lube before I put it in, fit like a glove.
