Washer?

Post by Shopsmither »

I have a Shop Smith Mark five and noticed recently a rubbing sound by the motor. Someone informed me that there is supposed to be a washer between the back of the lower belt shiv and the motor housing. I tore it down to this point and did not see any trace of a washer. I am wondering, what type of washer do I need to replace it Hard ware plastic?
I would imagine a metal washer would not do any good .

No washer, but a spacer that holds the fan sheave away from the motor. The soft sheave allows the spacer to get embedded thus reducing the clearance. A simple 'fix' is to slip a 5/8" retaining ring between the sheave and the end of the spacer.

Is it possible for you to send me a photo of what? The 5/8 retaining ring looks like I’m not sure I’m doing this right anyway maybe you already answered. I’m new to forums. Where will I look for the answer? Will it be a thread on the same comment?
