Bandsaw Issues

Post by patsem »

Does anyone live in the Southeast Georgia or Northeast FL, that has a Shopsmith with the Bandsaw Accessory? I am in the need for some help setting my bandsaw up. I have had this for quite a few years and have never gotten it to work for me. I have watched the YouTube videos and have gone thru countless wheel bands and have never had it working properly. I have some jobs that would be much easier if I could get the Bandsaw to work.

If someone cold help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you
Pat

Maybe some pix of an example of not working properly.

Pat,

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum.

Until or if you can find someone to help you directly let's see if we can help. First off do you have a manual for your Bandsaw? If not, the links below are for the PDF versions of the Bandsaw from here on the Shopsmith website. The first is for the Cast Iron Table Bandsaw and the second is for the Aluminum Table Bandsaw.

https://www.shopsmith.com/_files/ugd/d5 ... 7d45c6.pdf

https://www.shopsmith.com/_files/ugd/d5 ... 205b8c.pdf

These are the most current versions of the Bandsaw manuals and if your Bandsaw is an older Cast Iron Table one you may have a manual that does not have as much information included. The original manual that came with my 1956 Bandsaw has a lot less information than the Cast Iron Table Bandsaw Manual above.

The hardest part of aligning the Bandsaw is getting the Upper Blade Guide Column Assembly properly adjusted. With the blade on and tensioned it should go up and down its entire range with the Guide Bearing barely not touching the back of the blade. Adjustments for that are done with the Guide Column Bracket Assembly. The different screws adjust the tension on the column, forward and back angle and side adjustment. A lot goes on there. The blade tracking is self-adjusting while the Guide Blocks in the Blade Guides both upper and lower should be set to the tensioned blade. With the blade properly in place the Table can be adjusted. There is a stop bolt on the bottom of the table to set it at 90 degrees to the Blade. The other alignment is mounting it on the Shopsmith Mark series tool itself or other power source. The Hubs should align to prevent undue stress on the Power Coupler.

As JPG said pictures of what the problem is would help.
