A pen -- with Leather (?!)
Hi,
I recently saw an interesting article:
http://www.woodturningonline.com/assets ... r_pens.pdf
I tried it myself, with a few shortcuts and changes in technique. To be honest, I may never do it again! But anyway the result is attached. It's definitely different....

Great article!
Very informative, I've bookmarked it.
Chris, your pen reminds me of one of my first fixed blade knives, I like it!

Nice looking pen Chris and definitely different. After reading all the steps involved in making this pen, I don't think I would take on this project as it would be awful hard to let someone know all that is involved in the handcrafting phase to get the final result. It would be something that I would not want to part with for all the effort and time involved to make it, as most folks wouldn't give any thought to what effort was put into it. The satisfaction is that you know what it took to handcraft the pen and can look at it and realize the results of a great project.

Mark, nice looking pen. Did you start with a stabilized blank or a raw corncob?

nice pen chris. two of my "back burner" projects are a similar looking pen made of birch bark. i have a box of 1" x 1" pieces cut and ready to glue into a blank. the second pen will be made from dryer lint. have not gotten the right shades yet. the pen in my avatar is made from denim.
