Flexible shaft

Post by ryanbp01 »

Hi there-

I picked up a flexible shaft for the Shopsmith off of e-bay. I came with a rasp and file attachment. I can also use other rotary files with it. It attaches into the drill chuck. I wanted to see how it performs and all I can say is WOW! The handle fits well in the hand and is comfortable to use. I have used Dremel attachments on it with no problem. This was made in West Germany, so I'm guessing mid-80s. Maybe since Shopsmith brought their square mortising attachment out of retirement, the company could do the same with this? It would greatly help with detail sanding, shaping, and detail routing. I believe this tool would also be handy for refinishing work as well.

I'll be curious to hear how well you find it works. It would be much more powerfull than just about any other flex shaft unit made, but the rpms would be quite low.
