After about three months of shop clutter felt it was time to start. Decided I would try and get one running before doing painting etc.
Here is my problem. Motor would not run and blew 15 amp braker in fuze box.
Cord was cracked and in bad shape so pulled motor and replaced cord. Blew out, cleaned, and ran motor while on bench and purred like a kitten. Put everything back togather and when I turned on switch unit ran for about 10 seconds than blew braker. More bothersome is I also had a clattering sound coming from inside head.
Belt appears to be in rough shape so will replace. Clattering sound worries me though.
Any Ideas?

Have ya lubed the sheaves?

SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

Are you starting it with the motor at slow speed? (You do know not to turn speed dial with the motor off unless you are rotating the drive shaft).
Speed control bracket hitting the shieve can make a NASTY clattering sound if high speed adjustment is off. Can also make a $100 bill pretty bad if you get damage.

Did start motor at high speed. It started running slow that started to speed up before breaker blew.
Know not to turn speed control.
Also lubed sheaves and they move freely.
Havn't really touched speed control as it was set on high when I got machine. Not sure what may have happened prior to my getting it.
Will check that in morning.
Could worn drive belt cause breaker to pop?

IF the speed dial is NOT set to slow, put a sanding disk or lathe faceplate on the top(main/output) shaft. While turning the shaft by hand, slowly turn the speed dial DOWN to slowest speed setting.
Attempt to start it up in slow speed!
If you are successful, perform a high speed limit adjustment.
