Joiner problem - repairable?

I had some time today to go over my joiner and give it a cleaning. I put the fence back on and tightened it down. When I did that, the outfeed end of the fence lifted off the table. The more I tighten it, the more it comes off the table. It appears that the top "ear" of the quadrant is bent.

Is this repairable? Possibly by trying to squeeze the quadrant back together? If not, it looks like I would need [502651 Quadrant Assembly]. Everything else seems to be in good shape, although I have no experience with it. Suggestions are appreciated.

The following is the part ya need. You could try and squeeze it back together. But be advised that it may break.

Jointer Fence Tilt Quadrant
May require replacement if the outfeed end of the jointer fence raises too high off the outfeed table surface, or if the fence lock handle fails to hold the fence at the proper angle when tightened.

I would say you might consider overtightening less.

Mine was bent just as yours is. I cut a piece of hardwood a little smaller than the steel bar that the quadrant slides on and used it to limit the amount a could bend the quadrant.

I then put it in a heavy vise and clamped it down hard and tight and left it for a couple days. The quadrant bent back some so I reduced the size of the retainer a bit and repeated the process.

I am now using a "repaired" quadrant assembly - but, I won't be surprised at all when it breaks.

It is also a good idea NOT to lift or carry the jointer by the end of fence.

I have not used this joiner yet; it came with a used Mark V that I bought. However, seeing the effect of overtightening, I will be sure not to do it.

I will probably try to bend the ear back into position. The fence is not stable enough to use like it is, so if I break it, I'm no worse off.

The Shopsmith website shows that the quadrant is on backorder. Has anyone ordered joiner replacement parts lately?

I appreciate the input.

Thank you for the pictures and the advice on the process. It is interesting that your quadrant still appears to be bent about the same amount as mine, but your fence sits flat on the table. One difference that I noticed on my joiner is that the steel bar seems to have "bitten" into the quadrant and made a groove.

I had this same problem on a Jointer I picked up from eBay. Fomr what I understand from Customer Service, it is a common problem. It took me three or four weeks to get the part.
