Finishing Roasted Maple?

Post by jesse_27 »

Hello All,

I have made a tea box out of "Roasted" Maple and I am just ready to put on a finish. I have not worked with roasted maple before and am looking to find out if anyone found a nice finishing process which preserves it rich color? Any help would be much appreciated.

FYI-As most people I have brought up roasted maple to have looked at me like I am crazy for cooking wood, here is a brief description. It is Maple which has been heated to 300+ degrees in a kiln. The sap caramelizes and turns the wood a rich brown color. Amazingly the color is very even throughout the entire thickness of the wood. It has a wonderful aroma when worked and is a little more brittle due to drying process. Hope this can give some insight into what I am working with.
