As part of my shopsmith M5 maintenance program I puuleed and inspected the speed changer control. While inspecting the changer I notice a signifcant amount of worm control shaft play. Is this normal?
Thanks In Advance

No, the worm gear should have no end or side play. There is a small snap ring to prevent end play from occurring. Pictures can really help us. Contact me off-line for more information.

Bill
Sorry for the time lapse concerning my subject question and receipt of your reply.
Bottomline, you were correct in your response. Evidently I somehow lost a lock washer off the end of the worm gear when rebuilding/servicing my shopsmith, and therefore the resultimg play of the worm gear. This problem has been fixed and I am back in business.
Again with appology
