Gift for Grandgirls

Walking through the stores I found the grandgirls were crazy for NewMoon, the vanpire movie. I pulled up a logo on the web and used it as the pattern. I'm told by my daughter that this will make great Christmas gifts. Oak on 1/4in ply

So you cut out the pieces individually? How did you get "cullen" on the bottom?
Thanks from a novice... I hope I can fill your shoes someday.

I have a Hawk scrollsaw, though brand in not important. I drilled starting holes with a #70 drill bit and then used a #1 scrollsaw blade to make the cuts. Each project used 2 blades as the heat from oak dulled and blackened the blade, even at slow speed. The letters are cut with inside cuts, nibbling at the corners to keep them sharp. The entire project is cut as in "inside cut", leaving a frame for support until the last minute. First cut the little pieces, then cut the top filigree, finally cut the sides and bottom, always leaving as much wood as possible for support.

Gary - I am always wowed with your skill. --- Just WOW!!!! It is plain to see that a beginner in scroll saw work, like me, would have to draw on other's experience to figure out how to do something like this. I'm guessing you acquired your knowledge and skills with all of your intarsia work! One of the best things about this type of work is you can do it even with physical restrictions! GREAT WORK!!!!
I'm sure your grandgirls will love this!

Great work! Besides the finished project, I admire the patience it must have taken to do all that detail and inside cuts.
