Weekly Blog - December 29th

Post by john »

Well the man in the red suit has come and gone and the excitement is winding down for another year. I hope you all had as good a Christmas as we did.

There was no work done in the shop, but woodworking was not out of mind. My grandson's girlfriend gave me a nice book, "The Ultimate Guide to Woodworking", that, at 400 pages and 2000 photos, should keep me out of trouble for a while. It was produced in the Netherlands, so is quite different from some of the ones produced in North America. A lot of hand tool use, and the "Virutex" power tools shown are similar but different from what we are used to. Many of the projects have similar names as well, but again, the design is different. Should be interesting.

I had also picked up a small scriebing tool at the Ottawa woodshow in November and gave it to my wife in case someone need a last minute gift for me. It turned up in my stocking from the "Elves" so I guess I bought my self a present.

I also received a much needed new pair of hockey pants from some of the kids, so both hobbies were well covered.

The cedar grilling planks that I had made were well received. I only found one picture of someone BBQing (my grandson) but I did manage to find some others at various BBQ events that allowed me to personalize the wrappers. They each got a couple of great recipes for planked salmon, and brie cheese with berries on a plank, so we should all have some good times grilling next summer.

This week will also be a washout in the shop so there will be nothing new to report for a while.

Heres wishing everyone a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year!

John
