If you labor under an assumption that all Shopsmith bearings are sealed and need not be lubricated then you are as wrong as I was.

I was truly surprised today when I discovered yet another motor that has possibly been abused because I have not been oiling it periodically. How did I discover this?

Well, there was a discussion on another thread about replacing bearings and since I have no project in the works I had time to play. I have had a defunct motor (from my old Crafter's Station) sitting in the shop for months and I decided to pull the bearings to see what type they were.

Much to my surprise (again) there are no bearings but rather bushings. Furthermore, there is a lubrication requirement. When I got the bearings partially exposed I discovered that they were square and soppy with oil. Upon further examination I find an oiling port. Not hard to see just easy not to notice (which I have done for many years).

The alert: These same oiling ports exist on the Power Station. So, at least the Crafter's Station and the Power Station motors require some periodic oiling.

Now I am trying to pull the external cover off one end of the motor to get a look at the inside of the square bearing.

I would advise that you check all of your motors to see if they have oil application ports.

I worked up a "table" showing all of my Shopsmith Tools along with maintenance schedules. Most of the maintenance is quarterly. If you would like, I can scan and send you this table.

I have this "table" posted on the wall and have found this extremely helpful in keeping the maintenance up to date.

Trouble is, I am working on a, new to me, shop. So, everything else is currently sidelined.

I would love to have one. I don't have a system. Dusty, I assume that this is not true of the Mark V Motor. Am I safe in that assumption.

You are correct in that assumption. The Mark V motor has bearings. As far as I know it is only this one motor, used in the Power Station and Crafter's Station, that has this bushing arrangement and I don't know that that is universally true.
