Has anyone heard what the price on this new seemingly miraculous new power plant for the SS will cost?

I guess the answer is no not yet and that you guys feel it will be too expensive to up grade to. Does that sum it up?

No, that is NOT exactly right. The roll out date is an absolute unknown (to us) at this time. The real price is also unknown but....

I expect it to be "high" but not out of reach. It would not make sense to market something that no one can afford.

I'll have to think about it long and hard because I am on fixed income but I will be thinking about it.

Remember when we used to work on our own cars? Electronics and computer driven devices have pretty well put that type of work out of our reach, without considerable additional investments. My fear is the same for a SS headstock that is computerized. We have all seen the labels "break this seal and your warranty is void", and I have a feeling that is what would happen to an electronic version of SS.

You guys should see my wife's new sewing machine! It is state of the art, and really is pretty slick, but repair is a minimum shop charge of $50.00. Someone mentioned "fixed income", and that alone is going to put a lot of new gadgets out of reach for most of us.

Actually over the last couple of years "fixed income" has become less of a bad thing.

"Little or no income" has become the bad thing for a lot of folks.
My own income on a graph is all peaks and valleys. Too many valleys and not enough peaks.

"Sporadic" is a good description much of the time.

I may buy one of the new headstocks if the price is only a little atrocious but not real likely this year unless timing is right. I'm still planning to buy a 4 post automotive lift this spring and that will seriously hurt the already badly damaged hobbies budget.
I would "like" to buy the new headstock when they are released for their benefit as well as mine. I do want them to do well.

I'm planning on being one of their first customers, and I hope others here will do likewise. Shopsmith will need a strong start in order to make this project successful.

Once we've received our new headstocks we need to "spread the word", talking about it, and giving it reviews on other woodworking forums. I'm also hoping that this new development will give Shopsmith some earned media in some of the woodworking magazines.

At this point it is only a guess what the retail price will be. Low, High who knows. With the shape Shopsmith and the economy is in I would hope it will be a lower cost option to help boots sales.
I have read on other forums (wood turning) that the company that makes the DVR (lathe) has moved manufacturing to China. It is considered to be a very good machine. It would be a very good guess, if it is electronic, it will be from the east. Harley Davidson, An Icon of American made products, electronics are made over seas.
If this is the case with the Shopsmith DVR I hope everyone gives it a fair shake before judging the product.
