Early version of the fence straddler

Post by reible »

Hi,

Since I was digging out a few things tonight I pulled this out to show you. This is one of my very first projects from back in 1976 when I was doing my shake down learning on my new shopsmith.

I had been using other table saws but since the shopsmith was new to me I decided to make a few of the jigs they had in the PTWFE I got with my shopsmith.

If you happen to have the book from that time it is on page 25. I'd post it here but I'm not so sure how shopsmith would feel about it...

Anyway this is it:

This works by fitting over the rip fence of the 500 and will let you cut strips down to 1/4". The wider side is opposite the blade side so it is for times when the rip fence is mounted to the right side. If you wanted one for the other side that is a simple change of plans and can be done without much thinking.

Of course some where along the way shopsmith came up with the safety kit which includes an updated and improved version of this design.
