Mark VII parts

I am in the process of refurbishing a Mark VII I just acquired recently. I just ordered all of the bearings and should have them by weeks end. I was looking at the manual/brochure and it would seem that my particular example of the Mark VII is missing a few things. Mainly on the saw table it would seem I am missing the rip fence. From what I understand the Mark VII table is a different size than the Mark V and as such I would need a specific fence for this table? Can anyone confirm/deny this?? The other things missing would be saw guards, extension table. I am not sure what else is missing until I get it all put back together.

On a side note I ended up breaking the quadrant follower piece when I was removing the bearing from that little piece. The little rod/spindle that the bearing presses onto pulled right off of the follower .......ARGHHHHH! I am in the process of locating the part or getting it fixed/remanufactured. The one thing I really couldn't afford to break and i broke it. Oh well that's the way it goes and I will figure it out as i always do. Big thanks go out to Bill Mayo (not related.....:D ) who has been a tremendous help to me while working on my Mark VII.

I have located a guy who says he can make the plastic cam for the speed control out of aluminum. I am not sure if I am going to have him to do it or someone else. There is another machine shop locally that I am going to go to today to see if they can make it for me close by the other guy is up in Mass. Going to see if they can also make up some gear rack teeth for the headstock movement on the way tube as well.

The tables are deeper than the original Mark V and its fence is not long enough for the Mark VII. I have a Mark VII extension table if you are unable to locate one closer to you, sdssmith51@gmail.com.

That is the table that goes on the end correct???

The Mark VII extension table is "L" shaped and will attach to either end or to the right side of the main table.
The fence may be a little hard to find. If you decide to switch to the Mark V table and fence (and extension table) then you also have to change the carriage to the Mark V carriage. The gear teeth on the Mark VII main table are on the opposite side of the post on the mark VII than on the Mark V.
Of course you could also buy a Mark V 510 table/fence/extension set and carriage and have the big table and newer fence. It depends on how original you want to stay. More 510 stuff started showing up on ebay after the 520 upgrade came out.

That is correct and as Farmer noted it also can be mounted to the main table. The Mark VII had many nice features the extension table arrangement was one of them.

 Ouch! That is a bummer.
The cam follower takes a lot of heat when the press-fit bearing fails.

Perhaps there has been enough wear (heat/force) on the rod/spindle for the metal to fatigue.

Lately, I've been concerned about the press-fit bearing which connects the 'cam follower' spindle to the sheave. I haven't been able to find any information about it]

My guy in Mass was able to make me a new quadrant follower to replace the one that broke and I should have it by Tuesday. I think this is what happened when I tried to remove the bearing from the quadrant follower.

The bearing is only lightly pressed onto the little shaft on the quadrant follower after which they peened over the top of the shaft to keep the bearing from coming off. So it isn't surprising that the shaft pulled right off of the follower when I tried to remove it. I am not sure if he is going to try and make the cam or not. He said that with the equipment he had he would have to make it in three pieces and then weld it all together. I have another machinist that has his own CNC machine shop that he works at in the evenings that said he could probably make the cam for me on his Hurco CNC machines. If he is successful I will let you all know and I am sure he could make more of them up if there is interest.

Hi Michael, perhaps I misunderstood. When you say "quadrant follower", are you talking about the Mark VII or Mark V?

I would only be interested in the follower, but not the cam.

A Control Sheave Bearing replacement I use is a Fafnir 35KDD bearing (5mm X 10mm X 6mm). I use red LocTite (permament) on both the ID and OD of the bearing. I center punch the button/follower to hold it in the bearing. I have made a few of the buttons with a longer shaft and drill a hole in the center so the center punch spreads the button shaft to securely lock in the bearing. I use chisel with a flat end to lock(peen) the bearing in the Control Sheave.
