Belt Sander upgrade

I was reading with interest on another woodworking site about a restore on a Powermatic belt sander. He used a graphite cloth you can buy by the foot to attach to the platen.
Wonder if this would be a worthy upgrade for the shopsmith sander.

Hi,

I've used this type material for years on my hand held belt sander. It seems to work very well at reducing drag and heat but they do wear out and need to be replaced. They come in a bag of 3 at a time.

This stuff has been around for a lot of years so there should be some reviews out there.

I have a sheet setting in a box which I got that is large enough for the shopsmith belt sander but I have as yet to try it. It doesn't come with an adhesive for attachment and I didn't buy the spray they sell and now I can't remember what catalog I found it in.... I might just try the 3M I have. That is one of the problems of letting stuff set around... I know it was 6" wide but I don't recall how long it is (maybe a yard?) but I believe I have enough to try it on the strip sanders as well.

I think it ran about $9 or $10 for the piece I have which again I'm think was a yard but??? I'll go out later and see if I can find it and see what the length is.

This is what it looks like while still in the bag. It is a yard long and in this case 6" wide. The backing has a large HD on it and a smaller USA (for Tim) and this website:
