Could one of you post a picture or two of the SS lathe chisel sharpener, especially how it mounts to the strip sander?

Unfortunately the cat photo is taken from the other side and is blurry as well. It is exactly how it mounts to the strip sander that I am interested in primarily. I guess the attachment has a trunnion that replaces the table and goes on in the same location. A photo would be a big help in understanding the design of this useful looking gadget!

You are correct. Plus, there is a curved platen which fits onto the strip sander. One important note is that the Strip sander has to be mounted in reverse.

The instruction sheets say the jig can be used on the main table for lathe chisels, bench chisels and shaper bits.
They also say the jig can be used on the Extension table for lathe chisels, and on the main for others.
Most of the how-to is directed at using the jig on the Extension table.

Just curious-- which setup did you choose? And do you think it matters?

ahh, now I see how it mounts! It was the fact that it has an arm to stand it off from the ss that I was not getting.

Bill Mayo told me he was working on an extension of the drive shaft on the cover side that would allow the strip sander to be installed backwards in the outboard position so that the Shopsmith can be used as a lathe and still have the strip sander available to sharpen chisels at the same time. You would thus still be running the sanding belt in reverse, as you must with this chisel sharpening device. I hope Bill recovers soon from his back surgery and can continue to innovate for us. I just use the jig on the strip sander. I've never tried the other ways.

Unfortunately it the pictures in the catalog are, in general, rather low resolution.
