PaulRussell's Woodworking Projects

Post by paulrussell »

See a full grown man cry
...when he reads 47 and 5/16ths, then measures and cuts 47 and 5/32nds...
...when he learns that skew chisels have minds of their own ...
...when his loving wife says "Thats really nice. What is it?"...

Coming to Soon coming to a forum thread near you...

Those were made from pre-drilled rosewood blanks which are included in the Penn State starter kit. I've got to get better at sharpening and using my skew before I try anything much more challenging. Thankfully (??) the chisels included with the starter kit are rather low quality so I don't mind the learning curve on sharpening quite so much. If they had been quality chisels I'd be miserable about how much metal I'd ground away while learning to properly sharpen the skew.

One problem I discovered was that my Wolverine sharpener guides were not perfectly aligned. This was not a problem when sharpening chisels with the v-arm, but when I added the offset skew attachment, I had different grinds on the two sides because the distances were not equal.

Geeze, Paul - they're your doodles! Did you forget what you were sketching?:p

My guess is a planter box, or something like that.

Sometimes that is frighteningly close to the truth. :)
