Hello all
I recently purchased a 6" Belt sander (Greenie). After watching Nick Engler's 'Belt Sander Tuneup', I cleaned the entire unit prior to testing it because the previous owner had told me the it had never been greased or maintained.
After I cleaned, greased, waxed & reassembled the unit, I finally tried it. I set the speed to K and bumped the switch on and off to check tracking & make sure everything was ok.
Everything worked just as it should however I noticed the rubber on the drive drum moved. It has now 'slid' 3/16" to the right. I took it off, flipped it around to see if it would slide back, it did, and then some. After some inspection I discovered the rubber bubbles up (see attached image).

I hope the image helps to explain the problem better. but I'm uncertain what adhesives will work on rubber & aluminum, or if that is even an option. Any ideas?

6" Belt Sander Drum Sleeve
Once the belt sander sleeve is stretched, I found I had to replace it with a new sleeve from Shopsmith. I use a 3M spray ashesive by folding 1/2 of the sleeve over the other side and spraying that 1/2 of the drum. Then did the other side of the drum. I would believe the belt sander was operated at a too higher speed which stretched the sleeve.
I was able to order the sleeve by talking to Linda in Customer Service at Shopsmith (1-800-543-7586).

Thanks Bill. Another forum suggested rubber cement, but I like the spray idea better. I'll let you know the outcome.

Suggest speed is no higher than "B".
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

Per the manual that came with mine "Use settings "E" to "I" on the SHOPSMITH Mark 5." "Never operate the Belt Sander above the letter "K" on the Mark 5 Speedial....."
It will be interesting to hear if you are able to revive it, if that is what you end up trying, I tried that once upon a time with rubber cement, that was a complete bust for me.
