removal of headstock

quick question I think.

after reading many post I am pretty sure I can get the headstock off to make the mini, but

everything I read talks about when you put the headstock on, leave the cardboard in place to make sure you don't move the wedge locks. apparently when the wedge locks gets move,d there is some cursing involved to get them back together right.

so when removing the headstock, should I duct tape the wedge lock in position to the side of the headstock to keep the position?

It is not the wing nut that needs positioning held in place. It is the wedges inside the headstock. Since you will have some 'spare' pieces of tube, you can use them to align the wedges on the bench and use them to hold the wedges in position until sliding the headstock onto the 'permanent' way tubes.

p.s. to make it easier, open the wedges fully when removing the headstock, and make sure they do not rotate while off. They are adjustable even if allowed to move, but they must be done properly(both wedges equally positioned).
