So, I've been toying with my Greenie 500. I'm curious if any of you have ever tried to adjust the carriage left to right while it's in the lathe position. Meaning adjusting the carriage similiar to a milling machine. Considering that my greenie has no grooves along the way tubes for a gear to grab I'm guessing this isn't done normally but has anyone experimented?
I ask because the previous owner made an excellent tool holder to mount into the lathe tool rest along with a well made blade. With this in place, and a carriage adjustment along the way tubes, I could easily turn a perfect rod (soft metal or wood) by simply gliding this tool along the piece via the way tubes. I hope this is making some sense.

The concept your talking about is shown here on an ER10. The carriage is being moved manually.

I've seen an ER10 on craigslist that has a threaded rod threaded through the tailstock and connected to the carriage. A handle connected to the threaded rod that can be rotated to traverse the carriage along the tubes.

Didn't mean to confuse you. The ER with the rod isn't shown in that thread. The ER with the rod was previously posted on craiglist. Do you understand what I meant though with the threaded rod traversing the carriage?holsgo wrote:So the rod is from the tailstock end to the carriage? Can't see the rod in the pic.

Consider it a 'safer' position while metal chips/slivers are being created!:D
i.e. The California 'attitude'.
Sorry Mike! I couldn't restrain myself!
