Finally figured out why I couldnt tension my beltsander belts anymore. Took beltsander apart last night, and torsion spring was broke. Looks like it was twisted to the point it just snapped.
Also, noticed there was some scoring on the Idler Drum shaft, as well as what looked to be heat-hardened grease that fell out in little chips when I pulled the shaft out of the Idler Drum. There seems to be probably a few thousandths play in between the shaft and bushings in the Idler Drum.
Does anyone have any ideas what would cause these failures?
My entire SS setup was my Dad's. And as far as I know the Beltsander was purchased new from Vandalia when their showroom was still open.
Any help appreciated.
P.S.- from what I've seen, replacing the Idler Drum is my only, and best, option.

Inadequate lubrication(dried up grease does not lubricate very well).jalex7672 wrote:Finally figured out why I couldnt tension my beltsander belts anymore. Took beltsander apart last night, and torsion spring was broke. Looks like it was twisted to the point it just snapped.

You may need a new shaft as well.
Unfortunately ss does not sell those individual parts.
