I am rebuilding a 1980 Mark 5. I have removed the disc paper from the disc and have tried alcohal and minerial sprites to get the glue off with no success. does any one have any other ideas? Thanks; Ray
p.s. every is working fine after 15 years of sitting, I'm ready to build desks for the grandkids.

I've had fairly good luck with WD-40.

With regard to the sticky sanding disk: heat may be your solution. Here in Tucson I would set it out in the sun. Depending on where you are, that might not work. A hot air gun or the kitchen oven, set at about 200 degrees, should work.

You might also try lacquer thinner, scrubbing with steel wool. Another option would be paint stripper, but this could damage the finish on the sanding disk.

The official Shopsmith solution (Nick Engler) is the oven trick like Dusty suggested. Gotta love Arizona weather, huh?
Would love to see your project for the grandkids when finished!

Heat works good to remove the bulk of the remaining adhesive, but to get the discs clean, like Art, I use lacquer thinner. The lacquer thinner is also good at removing old bandsaw tire adhesive prior to installing new tires.

I use acetone and it dissolves the remaining adhesive pretty well.

I tried just about everything I could think of to remove the window tint residue from a car and believe it or not the best thing was Fantastic household cleaner. It was fantastic! sic
