Drive Hubs/Mounting tubes set up with power pro headstock

Just got my new power pro headstock last week and installed it on my 520. One of the things that was mentioned in the instructions is that the horizontal and vertical must be perfectly matched by adjusting the mounting tubes. OK, I mounted my band saw and slid power pro over to it. The hubs did not match with the band saw hub. Accordingly, I adjusted the mounting tube to raise the bandsaw about 1/2 to 3/4 inch higher than it was for my old head stock. I rotated the mounting tubes slightly to achieve horizontal line up with the motor hub. Since this went well, I proceeded to my other SPTs. The next thing I adjusted was my jointer. Again, it had to be raised about 1/2 inch. After doing these adjustments, I mounted my strip sander and it again required being raised about 1/2 to 3/4 inch and a slight adjustment in the horizontal adjustment. The last SPT I had to adjust was my Thickness planer. Upon mounting this, there was absolutely no vertical adjustment required--just a very small horizontal adjustment.
Sorry for the long lead up but I really like to know how each of these SPTs needed vertical adjustment except for my thickness planer. I have used all four of the SPTs many times over the years and they all worked well. What has me really confused is why the Thickness planer did not require the vertical adjustment from the setting used with my 520 headstock.
Has anyone else come across this?

All I can say is "Welcome to the forum, Bob". It is really good to have still another member.
Sorry I can not help with your question but I do not have the PowerPro and therefore have no point of reference.
What does confuse me though is how could the location of these shafts have changed. The headstock has not changed:eek: or has it? Did you do a PowerPro upgrade or did you purchase a headstock (a PowerPro already installed). If you purchased new, Shopsmith may be utilizing a new casting; that is the only way I can fathom for the shafts/hubs to have changed location.
ADDED COMMENTS: Here are some rough measurements from the drive shafts center line to the top surface of the way tubes. The lower shaft is 2 27/32" above the tubes and the upper shaft is 7 5/8" above the tubes. This means the shafts (on center) are 4 25/32" apart.

Bob,
Dusty has some good questions. I installed the upgrade to my existing headstock and needed to make no adjustments. Frankly, I never even considered this as the relationship between the quill and drive centers with the way tubes is unchanged.
OK I just reread your message and things are clearer, sorry it has been a long month.
I see two possibilities:
1. Your thickness planer wasn't adjusted as well as you think, and is now adjusted correctly. (Hopefully)
2. You trapped the power cord or some other bit of debris under the planer which has temporarily raised the height. If this is the case then you still need to do some adjusting.
I look forward to hearing of your experience with the new Power Pro, the earlier machines had a few bugs to work out. I've been getting good use of my machine the past week and really like the upgrade.

All of the SPT's mount on the end casting. The Planer mounts on the way tubes. Something has caused the shaft(s) to end casting dimension to change. Prime suspect is the tie bar/clamp................???
The horizontal adjustments were due to the poly-v belt tension adjustment repositioning the idler shaft(jointer only) Other spt horizontal adjustments may be due to different alignment of the way tubes(twisting).
I will edit this post to include a link to where I think you need to start.

You may want to jump back to the top post to get all that into perspective. You will obviously NOT want to do any of that inverted on horses! IMHO
not aligning the bench to way tubes(including tie bar and 'stop') results in many later alignment problems.

In regards to which headstock I ordered (and have), it is the new one rather than an upgraded one. That probably explains why the need to adjust all of the SPTs (with the exception of the thickness planer) to bring the hubs into alignment. I didn't mention it in my first post but I have used everyone of the SPTs (with the exception of the strip sander) just to assure that everything is in alignment and works well (which it does). I already have my old headstock all packed up and ready to ship back to SS for the $200.00 rebate so I can't readily make the measurement to compare the position of the headstock hub on the old machine and on the power pro. I still have a few things to try with the power pro but these are not SPTs (Table Saw, Sander and a few other miscellaneous and sundry items.
Just a little off topic but I joined the Forum about 6 months ago but did not follow it closely as other things had a higher priority. I probably will be back more often now. I have built an awful lot of bookcases, end tables, coffee tables and many, many bowls (both segmented and natural wood over the 25+ years since I bought my new SS510.

Great news. It really does not matter what caused the SPT to need adjustment as long as they all aligned.
I am looking forward to your future participation and contributions. With that much time on the machine, you surely have a lot to teach all of us.
Please consider filling out you profile, at least in part, so that we know who we are chatting with and where you are located.

I may have originally joined 4 years ago but had forgotten about it for a number of years. I said 6 months but I may have forgotten that I had originally joined 4 years so I probably "re-joined" approximately 6 months ago.
I will attempt to update my current information.
