Cleaning an SS dust cover?

Post by nsmith01tx »

I bought a new dust cover for my 500 a few years ago and it's gotten incredibly dusty - and has a couple of mud dauber nests on it as well.

How should the dust covers be cleaned - is it okay to throw it in the washer?

I assume I'd need to spray it with Scotchguard after washing, but not sure how it'll hold up in the washer.

I was told by customer service not to wash the covers. Just wipe the front side with a damp sponge. I was told washing the cover would damage it. So all I do is 1) vaccuum the outside and 2) use a sponge to wipe the outside of the cover down. That should also clear up the wasp nest residue as well (I'm assuming the nests are not occupied).

Thanks ... and since I still haven't heard back from my own customer service email, I'll take that advice :)

Placing a wipe in your hand and then placing the wipe on the dust cover and moving your hand from left to right and vice versa might help, this way any dust would be swept by the motion of your hand with the wipe in it and be expelled from the surface of the dust cover. or you could cum on it and then wipe it because that dust would think twice about settling on it again
