I was looking at some specs for a cabinet table saw and was surprised to see the 4300 rpm advertized arbor speed. The mark5 speed chart reccomends 3800 rpm at its highest and slower speeds for ripping. Well one and a eigth horse power does need a increased torque for hardwood ripping. No problem for me to handle oak or other hard wood, just slow the feed rate. It would seem 4300 rpm would really heat up a blade however and comes close to the max speed for blades.

I believe that the higher will lead to burning and overheating the blade especially when cutting cherry. Also the increased heat will cause pitch from some woods to heat up more than necessary and that will cause the blade to gum up nd lead to more burning. Kind of a vicious circle. The new Power Pro headstock has a preprogrammed speed of 3450 RPM for sawing operations. If you need more torque from the conventional SS headstock you can saw at a lower blade speed because the motor always runs at a constant speed. Kind of like shifting to a lower gear in your car. My belief is that the manufacturers of the lower priced saws are jacking up the arbor speed to cover a lack of real power. Be guided by the sawblade's manufacturer about the maximum speed. But I would still limit the speed to around 3500 RPM.
