Eccentric Mounting Tubes

Has anyone done anything different to achieve the same results as the Eccentric Mounting Tubes so the bandsaw can be left on when the SS is raised?

You can make a "shorty" or "mini" length Mark V. Then the radius of the lifting way-tubes is tighter, and can clear the bandsaw...

my mini is set up as a sanding station, so I want to use my other SS. but how does a shorty or mini change anything, when you lift the left side, it's the same distance from the BS as a full size SS?
unless I am missing something here--it's been a little cold and I have brain freeze:)

I may have to go double-check sometime, but here are some rough calculations of what I was thinking:
If a way-tube is 48 inches long:
Lift the left-end by, say, 12 inches vertically, where it would be wanting to strike the edge of the aluminum bandsaw table.
The angle of the way-tube at the right-side pivot is arcsin (12/48) = 14.5 degrees above horizontal.
The amount that the left-end of the way-tube has "moved horizontally to the right" during the 14.5-degree lift is only 48*(1- cos(14.5)) = 1.52 inches. So it's easy to hit things on the left side, like the bandsaw table.
If a way-tube is only 24 inches long:
Lift the left-end by, say, 12 inches vertically, where it would be wanting to strike the edge of the aluminum bandsaw table.
The angle of the way-tube at the right-side pivot is arcsin (12/24) = 30 degrees.
The amount that the left-end of the way-tube has "moved horizontally to the right" during the 30-degree lift is now 24*(1- cos(30)) = 3.2 inches. Compared to a full-length way-tube, the clearance at the bandsaw has increased by over 1.5 inch.
Worth cutting your tubes? Probably not. Just interesting stuff, I guess.

Here is how I dealt with that.
A picture is worth ....
this is screwed in dowel of wood big enough to fit in there
and the plates of metal are about a quarter inch thick

Here is a pair of eccentric tubes I made using a South Bend metal lathe and a belt sander. Nice to have tools!

Nice job, Peter, but I must ask! What particular function do these serve that necessitates the 7" or 8" inch lift that these would provide.
Could you please show a picture of these installed as you intend to use them.

I made them to mount a jigsaw that I bought which was without any tubes, seen here:

Probably straight tubes would have worked but I don't recall why I decided to make them eccentric.
Anyway, they work!

Thank you. Not being an owner of the jig saw, I had no idea of how these would be used. Very appropriate. Are you prepared to take orders?:rolleyes:
No kidding. There are people out there making money on items just like these.
