A Must Have Tool From Lee Vally

Post by Gene Howe »

You MUST see Lee Vally/Veritas' latest invention. A pocket dovetail tool. Now you can dovetail anywhere.

That might be good to have if you never cut a dovetail.

I watched the video and some of the saw cuts were just short of miraclous. That saw cut almost 1/2 inch with two strokes.

I suspect there was some editting done. But none the less the tool is an interesting gimick and might be fum to play with. But at $60???

You all know how cheap I am.

That was a dirty trick on the part of Vertias and not something I expected. The cuts were pre-made and he pretended to be sawing. If a tool is that great, why resort to tricks? No hand saw will cut 3/4" deep in two strokes. And it also appeared to me that the tools did not lock in place when the folded out. Might be a problem.

Despite the unrealistic video, it looks like a neat tool. But I don't see myself needing to make dovetails on the go, so why not just stick with conventional tools? Although, $60 for an overgrown pocket knife isn't to unreasonable considering a jackknife will run more than a hundred.

Perhaps today's date (April 1st) might have something to do with it?
