mortise hold down

mortise hold down
Wow its just like Christmas or my birthday around here. I just got in the mail my mortise and tenon pkg and the stop collar which was on back order for while. I set up the mortise but the hold down sets out far. My question when mortising on 3/4" stock do you set the hold down at an angle? Otherwise things don't seem to line up. Here is pic

You might want to do a search to see if anyone came up with any idea other then adding a 3/8" piece of plywood to the front of the fence. That spaces you out just enough to make it work just fine.... You might even get by with a 1/4" piece. It has been a while since I came across the problem and I think I had some 3/8 ply and it worded fine so thats my vote... if I go out to the shop tomorrow and find it is 1/4" I'll change my vote for that.
You might also find that the morising attachment hits the hold down unless you have it mounted the right way, another question I've seen having to do with this system.

I think Ed is right. This issue has been discussed before and the conclusion is you have to add a piece of wood between your work and the fence. I think the thickness can be 1/4" but to be safe use 3/8.
Also as Nick mentioned in the Saw Dust session on Mortising you have to mount the Mortising holder so the opening is to either side rather than to the front or it will interfere with the hold down also.
Use an aux fence and see if your problem isn't solved.
