Speed dial toast!!

Took off the Mark V speed dial during dis-assembly and look what I found. Well, there's at least a few teeth intact!(I guess this is why you shouldn't turn the dial without the motor running) The teeth on the main body all look OK, thats a good thing.

Anyone have an kextra speed dial handle they'd like to sell, or know of a source?

While I'm at it, where can I by a two pole toggle to replace the bad original one?

For the switch try http://www.willyselectronics.com for item # 30-345.
As for the dial, search E-Bay for Shopsmith and there is a person on that list that repairs the original handle by pressing in a new steel gear. I have never used his services but I understand that he does good work

This is not the reason you do not want to turn it while not running.

This is the reason you want to make sure the knob is installed correctly and meshed correctly with the idler gear. And set screw fully seated in the depression in the shaft for that purpose.

The porkchop gear and mounting internally is where damage occurs by adjusting speed without it running. The mounting legs bend, and the quadrant gear wears abnormally.

I just received my remachined speed control handle, and he did a great job with a very quick turnaround. Definitely the way to go as the new gears should last much better than the old cast gears.

Yes, I learned not to turn the handle when the Shopsmith is not running! Luckily, it wasn't a very expensive lesson.
