Serial number determination of year of production

Post by gwg »

My first posting to an excellent forum in my opinion of reviewing over the last three weeks. I am interested in a Shopsmith tool (Pro Planer) with a serial number of 021059. I am uncertain of how to read this for the date of production. The information I can garner from the seller is that it has had minimal use which the pictures seem to support.
Thanks for your response or direction.

The serial number looks like a Mark V mount planer built in January, 1987. Someone could have mounted it on a stand. The tipoff is if the table is cast iron or stainless steel sheet over aluminum. The Pro Planer table is cast iron.
