Universal Tool Rest

Post by jcraigie »

Can the Universal Tool Rest be used on a 500 carriage? Every picture I see has it on a 520 carriage.
1984 Mark V 500 and an early 1954 greenie. jointer, belt sander, bandsaw, jigsaw, planner.

It works on all Mark V models. I have used it on my 10ER also.

Excellent, Thanks Rob. I couldn't find where anyone else had asked before. I know that most everything is compatible but you never know.

You will note on the website page for the universal tool rest (right above the first price box) that they state it fits the Mark 7 and all Mark V models.

Hi,

Don't want to steal the tread but it seems quite on topic so:

Could we discuss the 10ER part a bit more?

In the catalog (from 2008) they list the various 5xx models but not the 10ER, working with the tool rest, hence I have always thought it wouldn't work on the 10ER. I have a 10ER I'm slowly restoring, but at this point it is all in pieces so....... I have not been able to tried it myself.

Just wanted to know what you did to use it on the 10ER, especially since that is going to be my preferred use of that 10ER, ie lathe.

The UTR circular base sits on top of the work table carriage. The base has two sets of two holes that you drop socket head screws through. A piece of aluminum bar spans the bottom of the carriage and has holes to receive the two socket head screws. Tighten the screws and you are ready to go. The carriage is clamped between the base and the aluminum bar.

That said, I did nothing special to mount it on the ER carriage. I just used the standard mounting setup.
