So how about I show you a project I finished today and you figure out what it is for.

I will give some hints to get you started.

Material: maple

Size: 1" x 4" x 6"

Center hole: 7/8" though

Other holes: (2) 13/16 counterbore x 3/8" deep, 3/8" through hole

Other hole spacing 3-5/8"

Use: adapter for use on shopsmith 505/510/520 (could be adapted to a 500)

I will post additional images that you might find useful as time goes by.

Note: So far as I know this was just invented today in my shop.

Hmmmmm, hole spacing between the smaller holes is the same as another project recently completed. 7/8" hole, probably could fit some bar stock a little less than 3/4" wide x 3/8" thick. But,then what would I do?

The "bolts" are from shopsmith, they may look like something you have but you would have had to get them from an add-on.

Washer head, length 3/8 thread 1" long.

Anyone care to guess why the counterbore is 13/16"? Would knowing you need a 9/16" socket to tighten the bolts help?

Yep I'm sure some of you got it! The hole is sized to allow the socket enough room to let you tighten the bold in the recessed hole.

Boy this sure looks like a drum sander table insert (555110). I wonder how all this comes together... or do I?

It is a zero clearance insert for the skinny sanding drum.
Or a zero clearance insert for a small dia router bit used on a mark 7 or Power pro.

Or it is a board with two countersunk holes an and one larger hole.

Ed you might be on to something! However things are ever changing, you never know when it might look like this:

Version 1.1 is now out. The plan was to build 2 different models, then I said "why do that when I can make just one by adding 4 new holes"

Counterbore 1/2" x 1/4" deep with 1/4" through holes, four of them.

How about we take a little side track and see if these pictures of a pair of t-nuts (555916) show you anything by looking at them.

You may have already noticed this or maybe you have never seen these parts, or maybe you don't see anything to look at.

Hint:
There are two 1/4-20 holes in a t-nut, those holes are what you need to study.
