Oh, no! A second SS demo in my area!

Post by bobgroh »

An embarrassment of riches. Just received notice of a second Shopsmith demo at a Lowe's in my area! So do I go twice? Naw. I will probably go to the closest one. The latest is one at a Lowe's in East Kansas City - just 12 miles from where I live in Blue Springs - just two days for this one (Monday, 11/14 and Tuesday, 11/15). Follows the demo's in Shawnee, KS (which is about 35 miles away) so obviously SS is taking advantage of a nice little route. Bill in the Tulsa, OK noted that SS will be there on 11/2 and 11/3 so they are definitely on a circuit. Absolutely great news. I am so psyched!

Wondering if you went an what you thought. I attended a demo today in the Chicago suburbs, although it wasn't much of a demo. Person from Shopsmith talked about the PowerPro, gave a brief demo of the saw, talked about the Mark 7 tilting system and concluded with a brief (one pass) demo of the Under-Table Shaper. Entire demo lasted about 10-15 minutes.

In the table saw mode, the demonstrator showed how to use the rip-fence scale to make very thin cuts. I was more than a little concerned for his fingers when he made a thin slice from an approx. 6" long piece of 1x3 using a push stick and also his fingers to hold the piece while it was being cut. His fingers traveled on top of the wood between the fence and the blade during the entire cut. VERY poor safety procedure. I stayed through two demos and he did it twice.

Shopsmith offering roughly 10-15% discount on selected accessories not including the PowerPro ($3,899).

Made it to the demo around 5 this afternoon, Really wanted to see the PowerPro first hand and see now the double tilt works. As for a demo you can see from the stack of cards he has had quite a few people there. At this time there was just me and another SS owner that is very new to the SS. So in the demo we mainly discussed the PowerPro and how it works and he walked us through all the features. He was very knowledgeable and had been with SS for many years. We really got to talking about past machines and the company. I was really impressed on how quite it was even at Shaper speed. Also noted no vibration at all and when it was connected to the bandsaw also no vibration and the saw table was perfectly still. I know I need to get one of these now. Just have to save up since I just got back to work. We talked quite abit about the forum and he was very interested in now many are on it and how close we are. He had only been on the forum a few times but now think he needs to spend more time on there and see what we at thinking. Then only part of the Demo on how it was used that was anything new was how it now goes through hard oak when even forced through it. NO stall not even a groan.

Bill:

This summer I converted my Power Pro Shopsmith to double tilt. Not long after that I was shaping in "under table" mode, milling many hundreds of feet of baseboard and window trim for my brother-in-law's new addition.

I mostly did this at 9500 rpm and really put the Power Pro thru it's paces. It performed flawlessly, smoothly, and quietly.

Fortunately I have another 520, so I could cut the strips to width and then take them to the shaper.

I now have the double tilt upgrade down in Gainesville, waiting for me to make this conversion this Winter.

Wow you sure a nice brother-in-law! Just curious, was it a special profile you could not buy already milled? What wood species did you use? Did you need to have custom cutters made? Thanks...

SS has not had a demo in my area in quiet some time. I would like to see the powerpro but for some reason Lowe's are just not having them.

Is there a way to find out where the next one nearby might be??

On the shopsmith.com web site under the Mark V link you will find a demo search option. If inserting your zip code they will share closest one to you. I also suggest signing up for specials. this gets you on the list to learn what is going on. Fjimp
