mini lathe chisels

Post by major_bob »

Received a set on mini lathe chisels (Woodriver) from the wife. What angles should I grind them to ? There are 1/4 and 1/8 in gouges, a 1/4 in skew, 1/4 scraper and 1/8 in parting tool. Would the angles suggested for the full size SS chisels be correct ?

Happy Holidays to you all !

I'd say keep the current angle as they came, for now. The only change I'd make for now is to check to make sure that the skew is ground correctly. 70° from long point to short point, then that the bevel length is 1.5 times the skew thickness. Also that the skew is VERY SHARP.
