adjustable legs

Post by tablesawtom »

I would like to put on adjustable leges so the table can be supported when it is being used as a vertical drill press. I have a SS Mark 5 built in about 82-84.

What all do I need to accomplish this as parts go?

I'd expect you have a Shopsmith model 500, as the 510 and 520 models have telescoping legs for doing just that. With the 500, you can get away with one solid support, like a length of 4x4, directly under the quill and below the table. Choose a length that places the table where it would be convenient for your purposes, keeping the table fixed and adjusting the power headstock up and down to make any necessary adjustments to the distance between the spindle and table surface.

I use this leg on my 500 model "Shorty" which is usually set up for Overarm Routing:
