Hi,

I'm working on yet another project and was hoping to find an easy solution to using a pair of these rack legs from the lathe tool rest to support a table sort of like the lathe duplicator has.

I could use wood but I was hoping for a more metal like solution if I could find one. Givens are it needs to be low profile, should work with both the 500 and 520 carriage spacing.

My first though was angle AL and then drill to use a muffler like clamp, that lost out when I priced the thicker material that I would need... so yes it has to be low cost.

Anyone?

I am away from home, so I cannot look at the LD or it's manual, but are the tube/table brackets available from SS?

Hi, yes I'm sure there are but I have never seen the underside of their table nor have I seen the tubes or how they mount.... and do they use the same tubes for the lathe tool rest as the LD????

My fear is that shopsmith may sell them but it might be to costly for me to go that way.

If you ever get home again and have the time some pictures of there system would be a big help.

The brackets are designed with the 500/520 ability by reversing the mounting. The tubes are IIRC the same as the tool rest. Will be back next week! I share your $$ concern, but availability may also be an 'issue'. Hopefully we be wrong on both counts.

Those brackets will make it very easy.

BTW, old part numbers......bracket 514697 and post 513904. Unfortunately, they bring no joy on the Shopsmith website.

Perhaps some schedule 80 pvc pipe flanges.

No sure what you want to accomplish. The table legs and the extension table legs are the same size for all Mark Vs. I have taken broken 500 table trunnions and removed the legs (drift pin) for different projects. I have modified a table trunnion to keep the leg teeth spacing in synch for the carriage and made different platforms to mount on/to the trunnion. I have welded brackets to the broken trunnion parts to support wood and metal platforms and other modifications I have done using the table legs. My only limitations was my mind coping with ideas as to what I could accomplish using different combinations with the table legs.

The posts are the same as earlier M5 etc.(513904), that has been replaced with 514416 in later versions.

The bracket is 514697, but is not a current part #.

The outer holes provide the spacing for the smaller carrier post spacing. The brackets are identical. A single set screw secures the posts into the bracket.
