I have to agree with the majority on this one: This sounds a lot like overloading and a fence not parrallell with the blade. Check your manual to fix that fence, and talk to an electrician about upgrading your electrical service. That should solve the problem.

What type of router do you have? It may be as simple as getting another chuck. I own a Porter Cable router and have two chucks: one for 1/4 inch and another for 1/2 inch.

I'd say go to the company's web page that makes your router and see what they have in accessories.

Gentlemen- I had the same thing happen to me. The problem for me was the blade guard. I cleaned it, lubed it and it works like a charm.

How about using a hole saw, 4 1/4" in diameter, and cut into a sheet of 1/4" ply or hardboard. Use a router with a guide bushing. Make sure your guide bushing is 1/4" larger than the router bit. Also, ensure your base is larger than the hardboard template. And finally, ensure the peice ...

I know you are looking for books, but there is a show on DIY about turning. Check your local listings for the name. The premise of the show is a man, Dave Hauk, is teaching a turning class. There are a lot of little things you won't pick up in a book, and it is also "live" info.
