Jig Saw Blades

Hi Folks,

The finer scroll saw blades #5 and smaller don't seem to hold up to the SS jig saw. I have a DeWalt scroll saw & a SS jig saw. I use the jig saw for heaver work. I use 5 in. # 12 scroll saw blades & 1/8 in. band saw blades cut to 5 in.

Wixey vs Beall

Hi Folks, Just a little note of interest. Beall invented the level box however Wixey jumped in and started selling it while Beall's patent was still pending. Beall notified Wixie to cease and desist but Wixie just shot them the international sign of malcontent. NOW the patent is in place and you sho...

Underpowered

Reibnle, Dusty, Scotss, Solicitr & Ed in Tampa,

The Techinical answer to what the term "underpowered" means.

Freud has designed the thin kerf blade for underpowered saws. That is ANY saw under 3 hp.

I have found this to be a constant with almost all saw blade makers.

Magazines

Sorry Scotss, I'm one of the ones who hijacked the thread. I sell machines and I love my SS, but it ticks me off when the SS owners try to tell me it God's answer to all wood working machines. They are just as bad as the standalone owners who poo poo the SS. Now to the magazines. At one time I was a...

Shopsmith vs standalones

OK GUYS ! Here we go. (1) I am 67 years old and have been either around, using or owning a SS since the 7th grade. (2) You're darn right the SS is a very underpowered saw. I have a General contractors saw (the ONLY one with 2 hp.) and what i've gained over the SS is ACCURACY. I've been the mentor fo...

DeWalt Saw

`The DeWalt saw is about the best deal in scrolldum. I sell tools & have been a SS user for fifty years. The SS scrollsaw offers nothing any other run of the mill saw offers. I STILL think SS droped their candy when they stopped making the jig saw. I have one and have had ity for years. It's a g...

Helping Shopsmith

Hi Folks ! I've been reading this thread for a couple of days. I'de like to make several points. To qualify myself I've been in & around SS since the 7th grade shop. (I'm now 67) I've had my own for about 40 years. I'm the mentor for Shopsmith & TotalShop in the Charlotte Woodworker's Associ...

Speed Increaser - Router Table

Hi Randy, At top speed the Shopsmith runs at about 7,500 rpm. the speed increaser moves this up to around 10,000rpm. It is basically a routing shaping tool. Of all my experience with Shosmith equipment I've had the worse luck with this tool. It's been back to Dayton 2 times. I will admit that part o...

Sandpaper Disc Removal

Hi Folks,

I've never tried the heat method, but it sounds like a winner.

I have noticed that some brands of sandpaper stick better than others. I would rather have the more stick than less. (I don't like floppy edges) and deal with the removal problem when I have to.
